About Southern Highlands Veterinary Centre
Southern Highlands Veterinary Centre is a locally owned mixed animal clinic in Moss Vale, caring for companion animals, exotics, wildlife, horses, and livestock across the Southern Highlands. With more than 70 years of service behind us, we combine practical regional experience with a calm, professional approach that helps clients feel informed, supported, and confident in their animal’s care.
A Practice Shaped by the Southern Highlands
Our story began in the early 1950s, when founder Alan Chittick started supporting the region’s dairy farms and working animals. As the Highlands changed, so did we. Bill Beresford joined the practice in 1982, and over the decades, the clinic steadily expanded its companion animal services while remaining a true mixed practice. In 2011, we became Southern Highlands Veterinary Centre to reflect that broader scope, and in 2013, we moved into our purpose-built hospital on Berrima Road. Today, under the leadership of Charlie Carter, Eliza D’Arcy-Moskwa and Angus Hayes, owners since December 2025, we continue that legacy with a focus on excellent medicine, honest communication, and care that fits the needs of both pets and producers.

About Our Clinic and How We Can Help
We know choosing a veterinary clinic is a big decision, especially in a mixed-animal region like the Southern Highlands. Below are a few common questions pet owners and producers ask about Southern Highlands Veterinary Centre in Moss Vale, including the animals we treat, how appointments work, and what to expect if you need urgent or after-hours care.
What animals are treated at Southern Highlands Veterinary Centre?
Our team provides veterinary care for a wide range of species. We see dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, wildlife, and other exotic pets, as well as large animals such as horses, cattle, alpacas, sheep, and goats. If you’re unsure whether we can help with your animal, please contact us, and we’ll guide you.
Are you a mixed-animal practice or mainly a small animal clinic?
We are a true mixed-animal practice. While small animal care has grown over the years, we continue to provide dedicated large animal and equine services across the region, including farm calls, herd health work, and in-clinic visits for suitable livestock.
Do you accept same-day urgent care appointments?
Yes. Same-day urgent care is always accepted during our opening hours. Walk-ins may be triaged depending on the situation and caseload, and drop-off appointments are available occasionally when clinically appropriate. If your animal is unwell, calling ahead helps us prepare for your arrival.
What should I do if my pet or animal needs help after hours?
We offer an after-hours emergency service with a veterinarian on call outside normal clinic hours. If you have an emergency, call our main number, and you’ll be connected to the vet on duty who can advise you and arrange care if needed.
Do you offer house calls or farm visits?
We offer large-animal ambulatory and farm visits throughout the Southern Highlands for cattle, sheep, goats, alpacas, camels, and horses, as well as occasional at-home consultations when this is the most appropriate option for the animal and their owner. We also provide compassionate house-call euthanasia services for small animals.
How do I book an appointment?
Appointments can be booked online through Vetstoria, by phone, or by email. For emergencies during opening hours, you can call us immediately, and we’ll help arrange the next available care option.
